Created by Emmy-honored TV animator and author Donna Kay Lau, Surf Soup School brings creativity, storytelling, and imagination to life through interactive online classes on Outschool — the global learning platform for kids.
At Surf Soup School, students dive into the world of art, animation, and storytelling, discovering how to bring their ideas to life through color, drawing, and character design. Every class is designed to nurture confidence, creativity, and self-expression — while having fun and learning something new!
How It Works
Surf Soup School classes are taught live on Outschool, a safe and trusted platform where kids can join virtual classrooms from anywhere in the world. Each class is small and interactive, giving students the chance to ask questions, share their work, and learn step-by-step alongside other young artists.
Parents can visit my Outschool teacher profile to browse available classes, read descriptions, and enroll in upcoming sessions. Once enrolled, you’ll receive a confirmation email with class details, materials, and a secure Zoom link. All classes are reviewed and approved by Outschool for quality and safety, and every teacher (including me!) completes a background check.

Surf Soup® School: Inspiring Creativity Through Teaching
At Surf Soup® School, I love sharing creativity with young learners! During my classroom visits, we explore art, storytelling, and imagination — discovering how kindness and curiosity can make learning fun. Teaching through Surf Soup® stories and characters helps children see the world in colorful, inspiring ways, while building confidence to dream, draw, and create.
Open Studio – Teens & Adults
Explore, Create, and Connect!
Open Studio is designed for teens and adults who want to dive into storytelling, art, animation, and creative exercises. Through interactive workshops, goal-setting sessions, and story-driven fitness with Prana the Piranha, students develop confidence, learn new skills, and connect with a supportive creative community.
Classes run on Zoom for 40 minutes, with hands-on activities, Q&A, and optional creative challenges to keep learning engaging and fun.

Book Club – Kids
Read, Imagine, and Create!
The Surf SoupBook Club is for kids who love stories and want to bring them to life. Students read excerpts from Surf Soup books, discuss characters and plots, and participate in mini creative activities like drawing, comics, and storytelling exercises. Parents are welcome to join and support their child’s creativity.
Classes are 40 minutes on Zoom, interactive, and designed to spark imagination and confidence in young readers and creators.
